HELLO!!!! Welcome to our website. My name is Carolyn Beebe-The Dichroic Lady.
I’ve been the Stained Glass Lady for the last 25 years.
I’ve been involved with leaded stained glass as an instructor
and as a manufacturer of windows and sun catchers.
About 5 years ago I began making lampwork beads but found I did
not have the patience it requires.
I did enjoy the melting of the glass although.
I remember being in chemistry class in high school and melting
those clear glass tubes over the bunsen burner, only to come to class
the next day and fined the glass had cooled and shattered.
As a birthday present 5 years ago, I enrolled in Shirley Webster's
dichroic fusing class. The
class was offered through Pacific
Glass in Gardenia, California, ( a great shop to buy all your glass
fusing supplies by the way). I
had a terrific time !!!! I
came home with about 30 pieces and haven’t stopped fusing glass since.
I do wirewrapping around my dichroic cabs with
sterling silver and gold filled wire.
I also began classes in silverwork but find I don’t have enough
time to make the glass cabs and also do the silverwork.
I have very talented friends who help me with the silverwork and
beading. Thanks Dona Tippets, Lynn Thompsen and Rebekah Wills.
The dichroic glass cabs can be used for all these mediums and
looks fantastic.
Dichroic glass is glass that has been coated on one
side with different metal oxides. I
start out with a base color of black, blue, white, etc. and begin adding
different colors of dichroic glass.
I then fuse the glass up to 1700 degrees.
After letting it cool I then apply another layer of dichroic
glass and fire again. I
continue these steps until I am happy with the colors.
For the final firing, I fuse clear glass to give the piece a more
3-d affect. I then grind
the glass to the shape I want and fire polish them.
As you can see this process is done over a period of several
days. Each piece is done individually so no two pieces are alike.
Although we can make them similar.
I like odd shapes but we do make circles, squares, triangles,
hearts, teardrops and just about any shape we want.
So if you find you want something special just let me know.
I hope you’ll enjoy some of our ideas on how to
use our dichroic glass cabs. We
make almost every color, every shape and every price range. Please e-mail me with any questions you might have, I may not
be able to answer them all, but we could have a good chat anyway.
